Spanish vegan seasonal tapas and their perfect organic wine pairings

The fertile lands of Spain offer a diverse array of fruits, vegetables, and herbs that thrive under the Mediterranean climate. The outcome is vibrant and nutrient-rich ingredients.

Simplicity and freshness take center stage in Spanish cuisine. By cooking fresh vegetables dishes become a true celebration of nature. If you would like to indulge in such an exquisite experience, we recommend you our Spanish organic wines and vegan tapas tour.

Let’s explore some examples of the notable wine regions in Spain and their perfectly paired seasonal products:

  1. Rioja: Known for its bold and elegant red wines, Rioja’s rich and earthy Tempranillo grapes pair exceptionally well with the region’s local produce such as roasted red peppers, mushrooms, and hearty root vegetables.
  2. Priorat: The rugged landscape of Priorat produces powerful and complex red wines. These wines, characterized by their dark fruit flavors and mineral undertones, find a perfect match in the region’s robust olive oils, ripe tomatoes, and aromatic herbs like thyme and rosemary.
  3. Penedès: Located in Catalonia, Penedès is known for its sparkling Cava and refreshing white wines. The region’s vineyards benefit from the Mediterranean climate, which also nurtures a variety of fruits like peaches, apricots, and citrus fruits that pair exquisitely with the lively and fruity characteristics of Penedès wines.
  4. La Mancha: La Mancha is renowned for its value-driven and approachable wines. This region’s warm climate lends itself to the cultivation of sun-kissed vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers, which provide a delightful match to the region’s red and rosé wines.

By exploring the wines and produce of these regions, wine enthusiasts and food lovers can experience the true essence of Spain, where the terroir expresses itself through both the vine and the harvest of the vegetable patch.

The Health Benefits of Organic and Natural Wines:

  • Reduced Chemical Exposure: Organic wines are made from grapes cultivated without the use of synthetic chemicals, reducing the risk of pesticide residues in the final product. Natural wines, with their minimal intervention approach, eliminate the addition of artificial additives and preservatives.
  • Lower Sulfite Levels: Sulfites are sulfur compounds found naturally in grapes and are produced during fermentation. Winemakers often add sulfites in small amounts to preserve the freshness and stability of the wine. However, some individuals may experience adverse reactions to sulfites, such as headaches. Organic and natural wines often have lower sulfite levels compared to conventional wines, as the winemakers limit or eliminate their use.
  • Enhanced Nutritional Value: Organic and biodynamic farming practices prioritize soil health, resulting in healthier vines and grapes. This, in turn, leads to wines that are rich in antioxidants, minerals, and other beneficial compounds, potentially offering greater nutritional value.

Understanding Organic, Biodynamic and Natural Wines:

  • Organic Wines: Organic wines are produced from grapes grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers. These vineyards prioritize the use of organic farming techniques to enhance the health of the soil and the overall ecosystem.
  • Biodynamic Wines: Biodynamic farming takes organic practices a step further by incorporating holistic principles that consider the vineyard as a self-sustaining ecosystem. Biodynamic vineyards follow strict guidelines, including lunar planting cycles, herbal preparations, and the use of natural compost and cover crops.
  • Natural Wines: Natural wines are made with minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to ferment with indigenous yeast and avoiding additives such as sulfites, commercial yeast, and fining agents. These wines showcase the purest expression of the grape and its terroir.

The perfect pairings: vegan tapas with vegan and organic wines

When it comes to vegan tapas, Spanish cuisine offers a wealth of delectable options that pair beautifully with vegan and organic wines. Here are a few delightful suggestions:

  • Patatas Bravas: Crispy roasted potatoes served with a spicy tomato sauce. Pair with a vibrant organic Sauvignon Blanc for a refreshing contrast.
  • Gazpacho: A chilled tomato and vegetable soup bursting with flavors. Enjoy with a light and fruity natural Rosé for a delightful summer combination.
  • Pimientos de Padrón: Pan-fried padrón peppers seasoned with sea salt. Pair with a smooth organic Tempranillo
  • Escalivada: Roasted bell peppers, eggplant, and onions drizzled with olive oil. This smoky and flavorful tapa pairs wonderfully with a medium-bodied organic Garnacha or a natural Carignan.
  • Croquetas de Setas: Creamy mushroom croquettes with a crispy exterior. Enjoy these indulgent bites with a light and elegant organic Chardonnay or a natural Chenin Blanc.
  • Ensalada de Tomate: A simple yet vibrant tomato salad with fresh herbs and olive oil. Pair this refreshing dish with a zesty and aromatic organic Verdejo or a natural Viognier.
  • Pinchos de Verduras: Skewers of grilled seasonal vegetables, such as zucchini, bell peppers, and mushrooms. These smoky and colorful skewers harmonize beautifully with a lively and organic Rosé or a natural Gamay.

The synergy between the seasonal products and wines from the same terroir creates an unforgettable sensory experience that truly embodies the spirit of sustainability and gastronomy.

  • AMAZING WINE TOUR!!!
My boyfriend and I did this tour together and we absolutely loved it! Jimena, the guide and owner of the company, made this tour personal and intimate. It was just the two of us and it was an up close and personal experience. We were able to see the vineyard, a historic cellar and taste the wines guided by a fifth generation wine maker. This experience is not something a large tour company with a lot of people would have been able to do. We highly recommend this tour. You will feel VIP!!

  • GREAT TOUR OF MADRID WINERY
Jimena set up a spectacular wine tour for my girlfriend and I at a small, 5-generation winery outside of Madrid. We saw everything that goes into winemaking, from touring the vineyard and tasting grapes to the bodega where the wine is fermented in huge clay tanks and finally to the ancient cellar where it sits in bottles. We finished our tour with a tasting. Jimena did a great job translating and answering all of our questions. Thanks Jimena!

  • A WONDERFUL PERSONALIZED EXPERIENCE
We decided at the last minute in Madrid to book a wine tour and Jimena could not have been more accommodating. She arranged on one day’s notice to take us to a small family owned Organic winery about 35 minutes outside of Madrid. We were promptly picked up at our hotel for the scenic ride to the vineyard during which Jimena explained to us the varieties of wines in Spain. Upon our arrival at the vineyard we were greeted by the owner’s daughter…
